Last week, OMIP, the Iberian Derivatives Power Exchange, has undergone important changes at the corporate and operational level.
At the corporate level, on the 18th of October, several decisive steps were taken in order to accelerate the creation of the single operator in the Iberian Power Market (OMI), namely:
- An exchange of shares between the Portuguese (OMIP SGPS) and Spanish (OMEL) holdings took place leaving OMIP being held in equal parts by these two OMI holdings
- REN which until last week had a 90% stake of the Portuguese Holding Company reduced its participation to 45% through sales to several agents. In the near future REN´s participation will be further reduced to 10% of the OMI capital.
- On the same day, REN entered the capital of the Spanish holding of OMI, with a share of 10%.
At the operational level, on the day before, a complete relocation of OMIP and OMIClear offices to Avenida Casal Ribeiro in Lisbon took place.
This change is the culmination of a complex project, with major challenges of operational nature since all market and clearing house systems and communications were realigned to the new location. On the other hand significant improvements in terms of performance and safety of the infrastructure support were carried out.
During the first week of operation, all the new solutions have worked out smoothly and in accordance to our best expectations.
