Benchmarks

OMIP has reinforced its commitment to transparency and innovation by autonomizing the production of derivatives market indices, now included in the OMIP Benchmarks for Energy and Environment (“OBEE”).

These benchmarks provide the market with robust and independent references for energy and environmental sectors, aligned with best European practices. Fully compliant with the European Regulation (EU) 2016/1011, OBEE ensures reliability, rigor, and confidence for investors, companies, and all market participants.

About the Benchmarks

OMIP has strengthened its commitment to transparency and innovation in the energy market by launching the OMIP Benchmarks for Energy and Environment (“OBEE”), initially for electricity and natural gas.

This activity is regulated by the European Benchmark regulation (EU) 2016/1011, and OMIP has been qualified as “Benchmark Administrator” by the Portuguese Securities Markets Authority CMVM, which ensures the quality, accuracy and integrity of the indices.

This move strengthens OMIP’s position as lead entity in the Iberian energy sector, as these indices ae of common use namely for settlement and references in regulated markets as well as in bilateral contracting.

The OBEE electricity benchmark indices represent various metrics that reflect the electricity and natural gas markets in their respective delivery zones. These indices consist of simple or weighted arithmetic averages (profiles) of hourly or daily prices published by the respective market operators, applied to different time horizons.

For the electricity market:

  • Delivery zones: Portugal (PTEL), Spain (SPEL), Portugal–Spain interconnection (IFTR P-E and IFTR E-P)
  • Profiles: Base, Peak, and Solar
  • Delivery periods: Day, Weekend, Week, Month, Quarter, Year
Access to Benchmarks

Access to the indices is available directly on our website and available via FTP service.
